Eyecare- The importance of regular eye examinations

At John Lewis Opticians Woolwich, we recommend that regular eye examinations are a vital part of any health care programme. Each examination is tailored specifically to an individual and no eye test is ever the same. Eye examinations are an important way of monitoring your general health and maintaining your eyes at their optimum focus.

Healthy, well looked after eyes can make a massive difference to your all round well-being and the best way to maintain this is through regular eye tests. Using the latest eye examination technology, we can quickly establish the state of your vision. Your eyesight is your most precious sense and deserves the highest standards of professional care. After all, without good vision it is difficult to enjoy most everyday activities, including reading, driving and watching TV. But poor sight may also indicate the presence of potentially serious eye diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, or general health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure.

We recommend sight examinations on a 2 yearly basis, exceptions being children, contact lens wearers and people with certain medical conditions who should be seen annually. If you have any concerns about your vision, you should contact us immediately. Our practice is committed to the highest standards of professional eyecare. This means we will discuss your individual needs, examine your eyes thoroughly, use modern equipment, answer your questions and offer you eyewear that meets all of your requirements. As an independent optician we also believe in giving you a friendly and personalised service.

At John Lewis Opticians, our status as a true independent practice means that your eyecare, aftercare and service is personalised to you and that you are given our best attention and get individual professional advice every time.

We provide specialist eye examinations, specialist contact lens fitting. Our eye tests can be booked over the phone, online or by visiting store. Same day appointments are usually available for patients who need to be seen urgently.

Children’s Eye Examinations

Although serious vision problems during childhood are rare, routine eye checks are offered to new-born babies and young children to identify any problems early on.

Free NHS sight tests are also available at opticians for children under 16 and for young people under 19 in full-time education.

Specialist assessments are performed on young children to ascertain their quality of vision and spectacle prescription. More detailed examinations are available for children with learning difficulties such as dyslexia or those requiring contact lenses or orthokeratolo
